Our students have been learning how to solve problems using coins and bills. We started the topic last week using play money to review the different coin values. Then we built upon the foundation to teach the students how to find the total value of coins using simple addition and subtraction. We also used this topic to practice skip counting by 5, 10, and 25. The students enjoyed learning about coins and bills as we used role play to help them understand the concept of transactions. For example, “David spent 25 cents on a pack of gum and 30 cents on a bag of chips, he gave the cashier $1. How much change did he get back?”. We reviewed this topic today in preparation for Monday’s assessment.
