Science. Technology. Engineering. Art. Mathematics.
This year P.S. 896 has not only expanded to include a new building, but the school is also excited to offer S.T.E.A.M to its students.
In terms of Science, S.T.E.A.M Education consists of Life, Physical and Earth & Space Science. In regard to technology, we will offer students the opportunity to engage with computer science. This experience will allow students to become digitally literate, explore coding, animation, and robotics. Many of the lessons incorporate a read-aloud to provide students with context, content and a connection to the humanities.
Our classroom intends to combat climate change and instill financial awareness through repurposing household items and recyclable materials when designing and building prototypes. My hope is for children to realize that science can be done with little out of pocket costs.
Although different grades and classes are learning and engaging with different material, the work and experiences we have had thus far shows students’ commitment to this program. Thus far, students have practiced modeling famous architectural structures with classroom materials, crafting catapults and confetti canons, designing windmills and popsicle molds, as well as some of our c and several students have been introduced to the concept of biomimicry.
I will do my best to post updates on ClassDojo and Google Classroom on a weekly basis. Remember to sign up!
