Gardening at SCI
Our school garden provides teachers and students with many opportunities to reinforce grade-appropriate science instruction. Our students work cooperatively in groups and are given assignments such as watering and measuring the growth of their plants.
Our younger students learn about insects and their important roles in garden ecology. Teachers, students, and parent volunteers collaborate in choosing the types of plants they wish to grow.
Gardening helps the students better understand the connection between our environment and the food that we eat. Even when plants are not growing during the winter months, our garden will provide opportunities to learn about the different seasons and how nature prepares for spring.
