Happy October

We had a great start to the school year and the students are now more familiar with classroom routines. Below are some of the learning that the students have been doing.

Math- In our class the students are learning to identify numbers both verbally and visually. Additionally, we have started to go over more, less, and equal.

Writing- We started our writing unit on what students liked and started off with their favorite food, the color and currently animals. The students are now working on sentence structure and learning sight words.

Reading- We have been sending books home with the students and will try our best to switch them out every week. At home, we encourage that you read with your child to develop their reading skills. In class, we work on a new book every week. Ms. Cai will have the book on video and the students are given a copy so they can follow along. In addition, we have reading groups or partners (usually a teacher).

Phonics- In class we are learning letter sounds, word formation, and identification. We are also working on the students writing the letters.

Project Base Learning- Our students have been learning about communities. We started off with learning about maps and then mapped out Sunset Park. The students are currently learning about our school community. They are learning about their classroom, the staff, and did a mini walking tour of our school. In addition to that, we are learning about Nicaragua for Hispanic Heritage Month. The students have been watching videos about the culture in Nicaragua from food to music. We will showcase what we have been doing in our school and will have a celebration on October 20th (please check ClassDojo for updates).

We look forward to more wonderful learning in the class! If you have any questions, please reach out to us on ClassDojo.
