Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to our Kindergarten/1st Grade Bilingual Self-Contained classroom at the School of Creativity and Innovation! I am Ms. Barreto, and I am excited to introduce our wonderful paras: Ms. Jocelyne and Ms. B. We will be your child’s teachers this year, and we are looking forward to a year full of fun, learning, and adventure. We can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us!

Important reminders for the School Year:

Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Dismissal:
Please ensure that you drop off and pick up your child at the assigned location and on time. For late drop-offs or early dismissals, please send me a message through Class Dojo.

Blue Cards and Emergency Contact Information:
Each student should have a completed emergency contact card (blue card) on file. These cards are completed and housed in our OPEROO App. If there are any changes to your contact information, please notify us so we can update it accordingly. It’s important to keep your child’s emergency contacts up to date in case you are unavailable to pick them up. If the person picking up your child is not listed on the blue card, we will be unable to release your child due to safety protocols. Please bring your ID for verification.

Homework Folder:
Your child will bring home a homework folder every day. Inside, you’ll find letters that need to be returned, newsletters, and updates about what is happening in our classroom and school. Homework will be assigned nightly, and it is important that your child completes it as directed. Please check your child’s homework folder regularly to ensure effective communication between school and home.

Sneakers:
Sneakers should be worn every day. We are extremely active, so dress shoes or flip-flops are not appropriate for many of our activities.

Toys:
Please remind your child not to bring toys from home to school. This helps us avoid the risk of items being misplaced or broken.

Birthdays:
To ensure instruction is not disrupted throughout the week, all birthday celebrations will be held on Friday afternoons during Period 8. While we don’t recommend providing food, small gifts like notepads, pencils, or erasers are a great option. Please let us know at least a week in advance if you’d like to celebrate your child’s birthday in class.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about your child. The easiest way to contact me is through Class Dojo or by email at mbarreto@ps896.org.

We are looking forward to a fantastic 2025-2026 school year together!

Sincerely,
Ms. Barreto
