This month in Physical Education, students have been busy building skills and character through both sports and themed activities.
Basketball Unit
Students practiced the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, and shooting. They worked on dribbling with control while keeping their eyes forward, using both hands, and staying aware of their surroundings. For passing, they learned the chest pass and bounce pass, focusing on accuracy and teamwork. Shooting practice emphasized proper hand placement, balance, and following through. These basketball lessons not only improved coordination and fitness but also encouraged students to communicate and support their teammates.
Teams worked together to make as many words as they could. Students had to dribble and shoot a basket – then dribble and pick a letter to make words.

Spirit Week Activities:
We also celebrated Spirit Week through physical activity lessons connected to important character traits:
- Integrity: Playing fairly, being honest in games, and showing good sportsmanship.
- Collaboration: Working together in team challenges and partner tasks.
- Intellectual Curiosity: Trying new movement games and asking “what if” questions to discover creative strategies.
- Resilience: Bouncing back from mistakes, encouraging others, and trying again with effort.
- Joy: Moving with energy, smiling through challenges, and celebrating small successes.
Hula Hoop Huts– Working together to build hula hoop huts. Then trying to crawl in and out without breaking it.
Hula Hoop Chain– Working together to pass the hula hoop around the circle without breaking the chain.
How to support at home:
- Play simple basketball games at the park or even indoors with a soft ball. Practice passing back and forth or setting fun shooting challenges. (use cardboard box or a laundry basket for targets)
- Encourage honesty and fairness in family board games or sports—talk about how “integrity” makes games more enjoyable.
- Plan activities that require teamwork, like cooking together or building a puzzle.
- Model resilience by sharing your own experiences of practicing a skill or overcoming a challenge.
- Celebrate joy by making physical activity fun—dance breaks, going to the park, or family walks.
Looking ahead:
Next, we’ll kick off our Soccer Unit! Students will learn how to dribble a soccer ball with control, pass with accuracy, and work as a team in small-sided games. Soccer provides a great opportunity for students to develop foot-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and teamwork.
We are excited to keep moving, learning, and growing both on and off the court!
