Our 5th graders have been busy diving deep into learning across subjects — exploring big ideas, making connections, and thinking like real-world problem solvers!
Math: Understanding Volume
In math, our friends explored volume by building and measuring rectangular prisms. They discovered how to calculate volume using the formula length × width × height and applied their learning to real-life problems, such as designing storage boxes and comparing capacities.
Writing: Becoming Journalists
In writing, our classroom turned into a newsroom! Students learned about the world of journalism — exploring what makes a strong lead, how to interview sources, and how to structure an article. They read mentor texts and real news articles to understand how journalists inform and engage their readers. our friends are now drafting their own news pieces about topics that matter to them and their communities.

PBL: The Ecosystem Project/ Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
This month, we’re celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by learning about the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. Our class is focusing on Mexico, exploring its music, art, food, and traditional dances. Our Project-Based Learning (PBL) unit focuses on ecosystems. Students are investigating how producers, consumers, and decomposers interact to keep an ecosystem balanced.

Next Steps
-Begin learning about fractions with quotients and multiplication in math, applying these skills to real-world scenarios.
-Continue refining their journalistic writing, focusing on revising and publishing their articles for a class newspaper or online post.
