Floorball Skills in Action
Students spent the month practicing floorball, using equipment generously donated by the New York Islanders. Throughout the unit, students focused on:
- Correctly holding the stick
- Controlling the ball while moving
- Passing with a partner
- Shooting with accuracy into goals
It was exciting to see students build confidence, improve control, and work together during game-like situations.

Winter & Holiday-Themed Activities
To keep things fun and seasonal, we incorporated winter-themed movement challenges:
- Balance Boards – Students practiced balance and core strength while “snowboarding.”
- Keep the Snowball Up – Using balloons, students worked on hand-eye coordination by keeping the “snowball” in the air with paddles or their hands.
These activities helped students develop balance, coordination, and focus-all while having fun!
Feed the Reindeer
One of our favorite teamwork games this month was Feed the Reindeer. Students worked in groups with different roles:
- Retrieving food (bean bags)
- Passing it to the elf
- Tossing it to the reindeer, who caught it using a bucket
This activity emphasized teamwork, communication, throwing accuracy, and cooperation.

Students run laps every time they come to Physical Education. Their hard work paid off—they reached their incentive goal and earned a New York Road Runners drawstring backpack! We are so proud of their commitment, perseverance, and positive attitude toward fitness.
Up Next: Jumping Unit
Our next unit will focus on jumping skills. Students will practice:
- Jumping over hurdles
- Jumping sticks and pool noodles
- Jump rope skills
This unit will help build leg strength, coordination, balance, and cardiovascular endurance.

Jump Rope Cards
Each grade will have different consecutive jumps to make, to achieve their color belt. Example:

Practice at Home:
Students can reinforce what we learn in class with simple, safe activities at home:
- Jumping over small objects like rolled socks or a rolled towel.
- Practice two-foot jumps, single-leg jumps, and jump rope.
- Have a challenge: how many jumping jacks or jumps you could do in one minute.
