Reading: Module 3: What makes a Community?

Kindergartens explore community and the people, places and helpers in it. they build background knowledge about what makes a community and who contributes. Students listen to and interact with text: Places in My Community, Map My Neighborhood. Students identify key details, characters, settings and events. they practice talking about what they read and show their understanding through drawing/writing responses.

Phonics: Unit 2

Students will learn letter formation for all upper-case letters, letter sequence a-z, story prediction and blending and reading CVC words.

Writing: Unit 2 Show and Tell

Students are getting ready to publish their show and tell writing books. In the upcoming writing unit: How To, students will learn to create how-to-books simple nonfiction texts that teach readers how to do something they know well- How to draw a happy face, how to make a pizza. the focus is on writing to teach others.

Math: Module 4: Understanding additions and subtraction

In this unit, kindergartens begin to building foundational skills with addition and subtraction by connecting counting to joining groups and taking apart groups. They will show their understanding with words, drawings and simple equations.

PBL: Community

In this unit students are continuing to learn about community however, they focus is on their neighborhood. They explore the people, the special purpose buildings and the people who help our community/neighborhood.Students explore through boos, videos, discussions and walking trips around the neighborhood.
