Dear Families,
What an exciting month we’ve had in class! Throughout January, our students have been learning all about wheels—a topic that has sparked curiosity and creativity in every corner of our classroom. Let’s take a look at some of the fun and educational activities we’ve done, along with a peek at what’s coming up next month!
What We’ve Learned About Wheels
This month, we explored a variety of questions about wheels. Here’s a quick rundown of the topics that sparked our imaginations and helped us understand the importance of wheels in our everyday lives:
- What different types of wheels are there?
From bicycle wheels to gears and steering wheels, the children learned that wheels come in all shapes and sizes. We discussed the different materials and purposes of wheels, making connections to how they’re used in vehicles, toys, and machines. - How do wheels move? How can we make our own wheels?
We experimented with the movement of wheels and explored how they roll, turn, and spin. The children even had the chance to create their own simple wheels using different materials like cardboard, paper plates, and straws. It was a hands-on learning experience! - How do we use wheels? How do they help us?
From cars to wagons, wheels help make transportation easier and faster. We discussed how wheels allow us to carry heavy loads and travel long distances. The children were particularly fascinated by how wheels reduce friction and make movement smoother.
Field Trip to the Parking Lot
One of the highlights of the month was our short trip to the parking lot, where we got an up-close look at real wheels in action! The children were excited to observe the different types of wheels on cars and trucks. A very special moment occurred when the children got to honk the horn in a car while learning about steering wheels! It was a fun, memorable experience that brought our wheel exploration to life!
Transitioning Back to School
After a well-deserved winter break, our students returned to school with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. They made a smooth and peaceful transition back into our daily routines, and we couldn’t be more proud of how well they’ve settled back into class life!
Picture Day at the Upper School
This month, we also took a short trip to the upper school for Picture Day. The children looked absolutely adorable and were all smiles as they posed for their photos. It was a fun outing, and we are excited to see how their pictures turn out!
Looking Ahead: February Excitement!
Next month promises to be full of new adventures and learning opportunities:
- Bread Unit: We’re excited to begin our Bread Unit where we’ll explore How is bread made? What kinds of bread do we like? How do we eat bread? When do we eat bread? Can we create our own new recipe for bread? This hands-on activity will surely be a hit with the children!
- Walking Trips: Weather permitting, we are looking forward to taking walks around the neighborhood to observe the world around us and extend our learning into the community.
- February Celebrations: We’re gearing up for all the fun activities February brings, including:
- Respect for All Week—a time to celebrate kindness and respect for everyone.
- Lunar New Year—we’ll learn about traditions, celebrations, and foods related to this special holiday.
- Black History Month—we’ll explore influential people and events in history that have shaped our world.
We’re so excited for all that the next month holds!
Thank you for your continued support in making this a wonderful month of learning for our class. We are eager to dive into new topics, make memories, and explore even more with your children. Stay tuned for more updates, and we can’t wait to share more exciting moments with you!
