January Physical Ed.

During the month of January, students in grades 2nd through 5th, participated in our Jumping Unit. The focus was on developing strong, safe, and controlled jumping skills. Jumping is an important movement skill that helps build coordination, balance, cardiovascular endurance, and muscular strength.

Students explored many fun and challenging jumping activities, including:

  • Jump rope skills (single jumps, continuous jumps, rhythm jumping)
  • Jumping over hurdles
  • Jumping stick and pool noodle
  • Jump bands for height, control, and body awareness

Jumping Hurdles

Students learned to jump with control, proper technique, including safe takeoffs and landings.

Jump Rope Ninja Cards

Students participated in our Jump Rope Ninja Program, which encouraged goal-setting and perseverance.

  • Students earned colored belts from white to black by completing a set number of consecutive jumps
  • Once students completed their grade-level goal, they were challenged to move up to the next grade level
  • This program helped students practice focus, determination, and personal improvement

Students were excited to track their progress and challenge themselves each class!

We had a lot of students who reached black belt. Here are a few:

School Jump-off Competition

Students had to see how many jumps they could do in 30 seconds. The jumps did not have to be consecutive. Students paired up to count their partners jumps.

Through fun challenges and personal goal-setting, students experienced:

  • Confidence in their abilities
  • Enjoyment in physical activity

Tricks Learned:

One Leg
Backwards
Criss Cross
Skip Jump
Combo Tricks
Long Rope (double jump spins)

Practice at Home

Here are simple and fun ways students can continue practicing their jumping skills at home:

Jump Rope Practice

  • Challenge family members to see who can do the most jumps
  • Practice 10–30 consecutive jumps without stopping
  • Try jumping to music to work on rhythm and timing

Creative Jumping Games

  • Use sidewalk chalk, tape, or string to make jumping lines or shapes
  • Jump over rolled towels, pool noodles, or small objects
  • Try jumping forward, backward, side-to-side, or on one foot

Jumping is a fundamental movement skill that supports lifelong physical activity and healthy habits. Thank you for supporting your child’s physical education experience!
