3K musicians continued to explore instruments, making a circle, taking turns, and listening to stories!

Pre-K
Pre-K students continued to learn songs in Spanish and English to prepare for the Winter Concert coming in December. They practiced taking turns and sharing instruments. They also continued to practice making transitions from the first floor where their classroom is up to the third floor with the music room.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten musicians learned about mallets, which are used to play some kinds of percussion instruments like xylophones. They developed gross and fine motor control skills by using the mallets to tap on their bodies and play mirror games where one student copies another student’s movements along to music.






Grade 1
Musicians in Grade 1 learned the song “Hey There Friend” with movements and changing partners.
Grade 2
Students in Grade 2 learned “Freedom Songs” from the US Civil Rights movement and discussed what “freedom” means and wrote original lyrics to the song “Everybody Wants Freedom.”




Grade 3
Musicians in Grade 3 continued their study of the ukulele. They started to work on their performance songs for the Winter Concert. They learned the song “Paw Paw Patch” and continued to practice changing chords from F to C7 on the ukulele.
Grade 4
Musicians in Grade 4 continued their study of Native American Folk Music and deepened their knowledge of the recorder. They learned to play as an ensemble with singers, dancers, percussion, and recorder players.
Grade 5
Musicians in Grade 5 continued their study of West African drumming and prepared for the Winter Concert. They learned to play melodies on the xylophone as well as sing and accompany each other using a wide variety of instruments inspired by traditional West African instruments.
