📚 Phonics
We are working on vowel teams ai and ay. Students are practicing recognizing these spelling patterns in words and applying them in both reading and writing.
📖 Reading
Our focus is on understanding text features, identifying the point of view, and learning about different types of text organization. These skills help students better understand both fiction and nonfiction texts.
✏️ Writing
We are continuing our opinion writing unit. Students are writing to authors and friends, giving book awards, and clearly stating their opinions. They are learning to support their ideas with strong reasons and examples from their favorite books.
➕ Math
In math, we are learning different ways to represent 3-digit numbers. Students are showing numbers in word form, using base ten blocks, and writing numbers in expanded form to strengthen their understanding of place value.
🌎 Respect for All Week & Black History Month
We are celebrating Respect for All Week as part of Black History Month, learning about different cultures, languages, and the importance of kindness and inclusion. Students are building awareness and appreciation for the diverse world around them.
🎉 Special Celebrations
We were excited to welcome families for our 100th Day of School celebration! We also celebrated Lunar New Year, learning about traditions and cultural customs.
🧧 Project-Based Learning: Lunar New Year & Cultural Study
During project time, students explored different ways people celebrate Lunar New Year around the world. Our class focused on one of the 55 minority groups in China — the Miao ethnic group.
Students learned about:
1. Traditional outfits
2. Architecture
3. Food
4. Language and characters
5. Music and dance
6. Cultural accessories
Students represented their learning through hands-on activities, creative posters, and the use of technology to share their research and understanding.
We are so proud of their curiosity, creativity, and teamwork!
