Class 205

Reading

Our 3rd graders will build their knowledge about plays, with a focus on the drama genre. They will read texts and view videos about the features of classic and contemporary plays. Students will also write an opinion essay about whether the stories in this module worked well as plays.

Our 2nd graders will be learning about stories that teach valuable life lessons. They will read many kinds of stories, from classic fairy tales to modern retellings, and even an informational text about how to appreciate a story. Students will also write a story about an imaginary friend or place.

Math

Our 3rd graders will focus on Unit 4: Relating Multiplication to Division: Students learn about and use the relationship between multiplication and division, place value understanding, and properties of operations to multiply and divide whole numbers within 100.  They also represent and solve two-step word problems using four operations.

Our 2nd graders will focus on Unit 3: Measuring Length: measure and estimate lengths in standard units and solve measurement story problems within 100. In strategic math centers, students will continue to add and subtract using strategies based on place-value, properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction

Writing

Students will focus Opinion Writing.  Opinion writing is when students share their thoughts or feelings about a topic and explain why they think that way.  They are learning to clearly state our opinion, give reasons to support it, and organize our writing with a beginning (opinion), middle (reasons), and ending (conclusion). They also use connecting words like “because,” “also,” and “my favorite” to explain our ideas. Opinion writing helps students express themselves, organize their thoughts, and build strong communication skills. Parents can support practice by asking questions like, “What is your favorite book? Why?” or “Which snack do you like best and why?” and having their child draw or write a few sentences explaining their opinion.

Social Studies

Our Project-Based Learning involves Women’s History Month activities.  During Women’s History Month students participate in activities that help them learn about the achievements and contributions of women throughout history. Students might read stories about inspiring women, create art projects or timelines highlighting their accomplishments, and write short reflections about what they admire in these role models. These activities encourage students to celebrate the impact of women, think about qualities like determination and creativity, and practice reading, writing, and discussion skills in a meaningful, engaging way for their age.
