January in PE (Lower)

❄️ January PE Update (3K–2nd Grade)

New Year, New Goals, Same Active Fun!

Happy New Year! January in Physical Education is all about fresh starts, building endurance, and setting simple movement goals. After returning from winter break, our students jumped right back into active learning with energy and enthusiasm.

This month, we focused on strengthening locomotor skills such as skipping, sliding, hopping, and galloping while reinforcing safe movement in shared spaces. Students participated in winter-themed fitness stations like “Snowman Stretches,” “Arctic Animal Moves,” and “Penguin Balance Challenges.” These activities helped improve coordination, balance, and body control while keeping lessons playful and engaging.

❤️ Building Heart-Healthy Habits

January is a perfect time to talk about keeping our hearts strong. Students learned:

  • Why our heart beats faster during exercise
  • The importance of warming up and cooling down
  • How staying active helps our bodies and brains

We introduced simple goal-setting by encouraging students to try their “personal best” — whether that meant balancing a little longer, hopping a few more times, or showing great teamwork.

🤝 Teamwork & Responsibility

As always, social-emotional learning is part of every lesson. Students practiced:

  • Encouraging classmates
  • Following multi-step directions
  • Taking responsibility for equipment
  • Demonstrating safe choices during games

It has been wonderful to see students grow in confidence and independence as they enter the second half of the school year.

January reminds us that every day is a great day to move, learn, and grow stronger together!
