🎶 April Music Class Highlights 🎶
Elementary School Music Blog (Grades 3K–5)
April was a month full of creativity, rhythm, and discovery in our music classroom! Students across all grade levels explored sound, movement, and especially Earth Day, where we focused on making music while caring for our planet 🌎 by creating instruments from reused materials. Below are highlights from each grade level.
🌼 3K
Our youngest musicians explored music through movement, listening, and play. Students practiced keeping a steady beat using their bodies and simple classroom instruments. We sang seasonal songs and experimented with loud and soft sounds.
For Earth Day, students helped create simple shakers using recycled containers and materials, discovering that music can come from everyday objects.
🌱 Pre-K
Pre-K students continued developing their musical voices through singing, dancing, and call-and-response songs. We practiced following directions through music games and began recognizing patterns in rhythm.
For Earth Day, students made their own recycled instruments, such as egg shakers and drum-like containers, and used them to play along with songs.
🌷 Kindergarten
Kindergarten musicians worked on steady beat, tempo (fast/slow), and basic rhythms. We explored instruments in the classroom and practiced listening skills during musical storytelling.
During our Earth Day activities, students created simple instruments from reused materials and learned how different materials create different sounds.
🌎 1st Grade
First grade students practiced reading and performing simple rhythmic patterns using ta (quarter note) and ti-ti (eighth notes). We sang songs connected to spring and explored classroom percussion instruments.
For Earth Day, students designed and built their own instruments using recycled materials, then performed short rhythmic patterns with them.
🌸 2nd Grade
Second graders expanded their rhythmic knowledge and began identifying musical form (patterns in songs). We practiced singing with expression and playing instruments in small groups.
For Earth Day, students created more complex recycled instruments, such as rubber band guitars and shaker instruments, and discussed how reusing materials helps the environment.
🌿 3rd Grade
Third graders worked on reading rhythmic notation and playing ensemble pieces with classroom instruments. We focused on teamwork and listening to others while performing together.
During Earth Day activities, students built creative instruments from reused materials and collaborated in small groups to compose short musical pieces.
🌻 4th Grade
Fourth grade musicians explored more advanced rhythms and began working with melodic instruments. We practiced performing in groups and refining our musical accuracy.
For Earth Day, students engineered unique instruments using recycled materials and experimented with pitch and sound quality. They shared their creations and performed original rhythms.
🌳 5th Grade
Fifth graders focused on musical composition, ensemble performance, and rhythm reading. Students worked collaboratively to create and perform their own musical pieces.
As part of our Earth Day celebration, students designed and built functional instruments from reused materials, then composed and performed original pieces using their creations.
🎵 Closing Notes
April was a wonderful month of music-making and creativity! Students not only developed their musical skills but also learned how music and environmental awareness can go hand in hand. We are so proud of their creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
